Sarah "Sally" Miller Martin, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 86, passed away in Pleasanton, CA on Thursday, May 11, 2017, with her family near her side.
She was born January 31, 1931, in DeKalb, IL, to Ralph Guvine and Ethel Belle (Langholf) Miller of Rochelle, IL. She married Robert "Bob" Paul Martin on July 20, 1951, at Seward Congregational Church.
Sally attended Rochelle Township and Winnebago High Schools. She continued her education at Rockford Memorial Hospital, receiving her degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Americana Nursing Home in Rochelle for many years, later joining private practice before moving with her family to Escondido, CA in 1977. She changed professions and worked for Judd Wire until retirement. It was then that she and Bob moved to Cottonwood, AZ, and later Yerington, NV.
Sally was a prolific reader, an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed bowling. Her abundant love and generosity to family and friends became her legacy.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Jay Robert and Todd James; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Milligan; eight children, Ruth (Carey Griffin), Bradley (Bernardita), David, Steven, Sara (John Lujan), Jeff (Lea), Elizabeth (Noel Ballecer), Joel; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her family held a private memorial at Callaghan Mortuary on May 12, 2017, and she will be laid to rest at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle, IL.
