Emily J. Champagne
August 7, 2017

Emily J. Champagne, 86, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at The Cottages in Cicero. She was born in Oneonta, N.Y., daughter of the late Frederick and Gertrude (Burr) Douglas. She was predeceased by her son, Jerry Champagne, her daughter, Frances Crossman, sisters, Dorothy Wilke & Katie Baker, brother, Frederick (Sonny) Douglas, her grandson, Ryan Hayes and great-grandson, Logan Hayes. Along with her love of reading books and shopping for her large family, Emily enjoyed every moment she spent with her family. She was better than Hallmark at remembering everyone's birthdays, anniversaries and important events in our lives and never missed sending out cards or an opportunity to to call us for nice long chats! Her large family was the center of her world and her family grew even larger when her health issues led to her moving into The Cottages where she embraced the wonderful staff there as extended family. The loving care that she received at The Cottages made for many enjoyable days during the last few months of her life! The awesome legacy of putting family first and making every moment count will be carried on through each family member and everyone whose life she touched. Emily's greatest gift was her passion for her family! Emily is survived by 7 children, Sandra (Reynold) Hayes of Syracuse, Juanita (Joseph) Starowicz of Cicero, Dawn Champagne of North Syracuse, James Champagne Jr. of Syracuse, John (Nancy) Champagne of Minoa, Terri Lucken of North Carolina, Laurie (Richard) Nesci of Cicero and Margo Nish of Camillus. 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, N.Y. on Friday from noon to 2:00 P.M. with a funeral service in celebration of Emily's life to follow at 2:00P.M.
