Christopher Charles Cribbs, 44, of Monticello, Illinois, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 9, 2017) at Kirby Medical Center Emergency Room, Monticello.

Chris was born in Champaign on Sept. 16, 1972, to his amazing and devoted mother, Linda K. (Radmaker) Cribbs of Monticello, and the late Sherman D. Cribbs, formerly of Champaign.

He was married to the love of his life, Stacy (Poague) Cribbs, for nearly 24 wonderful years. He was the best father in the world to Benjamin, 13, whom he adored and worshipped and couldn't have been more proud of. Ripley, his cocker spaniel, was a constant and steadfast companion.

They made their home in Monticello, surrounded by a host of wonderful friends and neighbors. He was a quintessential and loving big brother to Brent Cribbs of Ivesdale. He is also survived by two loving aunts, several fantastic cousins, eight nieces and nephews, all of whom had a special place in his heart, as well as countless friends.

He graduated from Bement High School in 1991. He later proudly graduated, by the grace of God, with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University of Illinois in 1998.

He began his career at Motorola in Austin, Texas, where he and his wife made their home for two years before returning to Illinois where he was a computer engineer for many years at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the UI. He often said the computers were only super after he was finished with them!

He was currently employed by Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana in the IT department, surrounded by friends who loved him.

Chris coached the Piatt County Golden Eagles Special Olympics basketball team for a great many years in Monticello. His adored niece, Chloe Burgener, is one of the many athletes who looked up to Chris for unending love and support.

He and his brother were both fans of the Chicago Cubs and their beloved Minnesota Vikings. Chris enjoyed watching (and brilliantly quoting) movies while not eating popcorn.

As a family, the Cribbses enjoyed decorating elaborately, and somewhat obnoxiously, for Halloween every year in the Appletree subdivision. Here, he proudly served as the president of the Home Owners Association where he longed for the ponds to be open and free to all.

Chris was also a beer connoisseur and a donut aficionado. He was an avid and lifelong smart aleck, and undisputed king of repartee which he passed on to his son.

He was a former owner of a mullet and an EI Camino, both of which he considered to be business in the front and party in the back. He loved babies, and he gave the best bear hugs. He had a deep love of music which he shared with his son and dreamed of one day playing the electric guitar. He put up with his wife's incessant news watching and political rantings and supported her in every way possible.

He was a beloved family member of Maple Point Supportive Living where he shared his love for life with the residents often. Chris made sure his family never wanted for anything, especially love, and laughter. He lifted us up and made us want to be better people.

Chris had beaten cancer along with a host of other medical issues guided by the loving hands of Dr. Ann Marty and Dr. Jessie Houston. He was always courageous, never complained, and he was grateful for every single day. Chris went as far as he could possibly go, and it's now up to us to carry on his legacy.

Chris was preceded in death by his father as well as his maternal grandparents, Harry and Mary Radmaker, and his paternal grandparents, Gene and Dorothy Cribbs, and his godmother, Margaret Lynch.

He was survived by a large and loving family. Above all, Chris loved his family and his friends deeply. He will be greatly missed.
