Arthur Peter Jensen, 105, of Idaho Falls, and formerly of Rigby, passed away August 8, 2017 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born May 10, 1912 in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Elmer and Anna Jensen. His early years were spent in Burton, west of Rexburg, where his family farmed and raised livestock. He attended school in Burton, Rexburg and finished in Roberts.
He married Pairlee Hodge on October 10, 1934 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. They lived in Burton and then Roberts for many years. For much of that time in Roberts, he was manager of Boise Payette, which included estimating the cost of building homes. He also served on the school board and city council.
After a few years in Idaho Falls, they settled in the Rigby area. He, along with his brother, Harley, and Raymond Ball, started Valley Builders Supply. They built many homes in the area. He was one of those honored as "Men of the Year" by the Rigby Chamber of Commerce. He also had a real estate brokers license and dealt in real estate for many years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, including counselor in bishoprics, high councilor and temple officiator for 22 years. He loved serving in the temple and was a regular attender.
He and Pairlee had six sons and one daughter.
He is survived by his children: Gerald (Joyce) Jensen, of Valencia, CA, Sherman (Pauline) Jensen, of Littleton, CO, Blaine (Dolores) Jensen, of North Pole, AK, Murray Jensen, of Pocatello, Mark (Vickie) Jensen, of Rexburg, Nova Jean (Layne) Dansie, of Idaho Falls, and J. Paul Jensen, of Glen Allen, VA; two sisters: Geneva Borrowman, of Coolidge, AZ, and Jeanette Burnside, of Idaho Falls; 46 grandchildren; 101 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12th at the red brick LDS church, 401 West 1st South, Rigby, with Bishop Rick Barton officiating. Viewings will be held Friday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main, Rigby and Saturday, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church before the services.
Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Temple Patron Assistance Fund or Temple Construction of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
