Benjamin Avery was a farmer who died of old age complications at the age of 83 in the town of Westerlo, Albany County, New York in April 1850.

He was born in New York per the 1850 mortality census.

Benjamin Avery married Sarah Cordelia Williamson in 1787. They were the parents of eight (9?) children. Sarah died on January 2, 1805 at the age of 36, less than a month after the birth of their youngest son Benjamin Samuel Avery, who was born on December 12, 1804. Sarah was buried on the family property, which is on lot 343 of the West Rensselaer Manor in Albany County, New York. This is in the south west part of Westerlo. It was several years after her death that Westerlo was formed (in 1815) out of parts of Rensselaerville and Coeymans. Benjamin's second wife was Sarah "Sally" DeMelt. They were married in 1805 and were the parents of 11 (possibly more) children. Sarah (DeMelt) Avery was born November 8, 1780 (or 1787) and died before April 1850.
