Doris M. Oen, 86, Minot, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND after a long illness.

Doris was born in Minot, ND on January 28, 1931 to William Alger and Rosie (Ernst) Alger. She attended schools in Minot and graduated with the MHS Class of 1949.

Albert L. Oen borrowed his father, Gilberts car. He and Doris went for a drive to Miles City, MT on March 18, 1950. They returned to Minot with the surprise news that they had eloped and were married.

Albert and Doris were in for another adventure and left Minot with a move to Denver, CO. While they were living in Denver, both boys, Michael Robert and Kevin John, were born. They returned to the Oen farm, SW of Minot, when the boys were still very young. Doris loved living in the country, working in the yard and just being outside. Albert and Doris went their separate ways in May of 1992. Doris continued to live on the farm, later with the help of a family friends, Einar & Rose Oen, until her health forced her to leave her home of so many years.

On January 2, 1997, Doris retired after 26 years at the Minot Kmart. She later became a Senior Care Companion with Lutheran Social Services.

Doris had been a very active member of the Minot Eagles Auxiliary before her illness. She had been a member of the Ritual Team. She love traveling to conventions with the ritual gals and bringing home many awards. Doris was named the Auxiliary Sister of the Year in 1989. She served as President of the Auxiliary in 1990-1991. In 1992-1993 she was named the Auxiliary Mother of the Year. Many enjoyed the Tom & Jerry's she helped to prepare and serve during the holidays at the Eagles Club.

Doris's heart ached when her son, Kevin left her alone on the farm. Kevin died on September 17, 2009 after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, brain cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Kevin Oen, sister, Margaret Benson and brothers, Arnold Alger and Edward Alger.

Survivors include: son, Michael (Echo Buettner) Oen. Grandma Farms Grandsons: Shawn (Joan) Oen and Kyle (Christina) Oen Great Grandchildren: Savanha (Matt) Seiler, Connor, Emma and Erik Oen all of MN. Brother, Robert Alger Los Angeles, CA along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
