Our Father God welcomed home His faithful servant Lillian Ruth Cook Bearden, (7/20/1924 - 8/6/2017), Conyers, GA, after a long (93 yrs.) and faithful life.
Lillian was born in Smyrna, GA and graduated from Commercial High in Atlanta. She loved her family, enjoyed music and reading. Besides being a faithful prayer warrior and loving homemaker, her occupations included working in The Pentagon, Washington, D.C. during WWII; working for the Atlanta law office of Fulton Brackett; teaching kindergarten at Grace Christian School, Decatur. She taught various age groups in Girls in Action (WMU's GA's), Sunday School, Bible study classes at Starcrest Nursing Home, Lithonia, GA, and was an active member, and at times, director, of Women's Missionary Union (WMU) at Glenwood Hills Baptist Church and Heritage Hills Baptist Church. Lillian was also former WMU Director of the Stone Mountain Baptist Association. Lillian's example, teaching, and prayers touched and influenced many lives. Well done, good and faithful servant!
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mercer Bearden, Sr. (1989). Surviving immediate family includes son, John Mercer Bearden, Jr. (Rebecca), Decatur; granddaughter, Kristen B. Cason (Alex), Leesville, SC; son, James Thomas Bearden (Ceal), Marietta; grandsons, Brad, Cliff, Jeff Bearden, Marietta/Kennesaw; great grandsons, Jeremey and Wesley. Surviving sister is Mattie Louise Cook King, Loganville, GA. Predeceased parents, Parks Carswell Cook (Essie Mae) (Ludie); and siblings, Leroy, Hugh Thomas, Sr., John David, Cornelia Sears, James Randolph, Bessie, Robert, Ethel Virginia.
The family wishes to express gratitude and thanks to Manchester Court Assisted Living and Memory Care, Conyers, and Longleaf Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Joe Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Those wishing to attend the graveside interment will meet at 2:45 PM at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Dr., Atlanta.
