He enlisted from Berrien County on 3 Nov 1861 and mustered out with the unit on 15 Feb 1866 at Camden, AR. He served a total of 4 years and 3 months.

He married Rebecca Sides 26 Jul 1868 in Berrien County, MI. She died between 1874 and 1880, leaving him with three young children: James (b.1868), Joseph (b.1873) and Cassa (b.1874).

After they were orphaned:

James was committed to the Indiana Boys' School and died there in 1888.

Joseph was an inmate of the Van Buren County Poorhouse/Infirmary for many decades and died there in 1940.
