Cecil Adams was born in Nebraska, a son of John Harvey Adams and Elizabeth Jane Harlan. He had siblings Eva 1888-?, Zoe Essie 1888-1969, ?Foss H. 1891-?, Fay Harvey, Carl Elery, Kate 1898-? and Lillian 1900-1954.

His family lived in Faribault, Minnesota, where his father was a sales manager for an electric company.

Cecil married Lula Temperance Wilcox and they had children Cecil Cady, Jr., John W. ~1918-?, James Richard, Sr., Mary Alice 1922–2010, Norval Charles 1924–2007.

For several years Cecil served as commercial sales manager of the Faribault Division of the Northern States Power Co., before his retirement a few years ago, coming to Faribault in 1924 from South Dakota and Mankato where he had been in business.

Cecil was unusually active in community affairs. For 20 years he was a member of the Rice County Fair Board, serving a period as fair board secretary; he was active in the Faribault Chamber of Commerce, served as president of the Faribault Civic Music Association and was a member of the Faribault Safety Council.

He was a past president of the Faribault Lions Club, a member during his residence here of the board of directors of the Rice County Chapter, American Red Cross, a member of the Congregational Church and a member of Faribault Lodge No. 9, AF and AM. He also served as president of the former Faribault Community Chest. He was a former member of the Faribault Country Club.

In 1946 he was awarded the Faribault Junior Chamber of Commerce Honorary Scroll for distinguished service to this community.

Following his retirement from the NSP, Cecil and Lula made their home in Elysian and then moved to Youngstown, Arizona. Just the summer before his death they visited relatives and friends in Faribault and the Twin Cities and recently returned to Arizona.

He was survived by his widow, Lula, four sons, Cecil Jr., John and Richard Adams, all of Minneapolis and Norval C. Gladstone, Oregon and a daughter, Mrs. Preston Oliver (Mary) Bellevue, Washington.
