Born in Grundy County, Bill lived in the Cameron area most of his life. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1939. He served six years in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Saratoga during World War II in the Pacific theater.

Bill's greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Cameron First Christian Church, the Cameron Masonic Lodge, and the Moila Shrine Temple.
