Margaret Elizabeth Phelps Clouser was born February 16, 1925 in Hitchcock, Texas to Clarence E. Phelps and Estella Caldwell Phelps. . She attended Lorraine Crosby Elementary School in Hitchcock, and Central High School in Galveston, Texas, where she met her husband, Ernest Zachary Clouser. She received her Bachelors Degree from Prairie View College in 1947 and her Masters Degree from Texas Southern University in 1954.

Margaret married Ernest Zachary Clouser, on November 21, 1943 and they celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary at Colonial Oaks Of Pearland in 2009.

Margaret was a career teacher, beginning her teaching career in the Hitchcock School District and continuing her teaching career in the Houston Independent School District, where she retired in 1984, after 34-years of service.

Margaret is a 70-year soror of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a “Golden Delta.” She was an avid Bridge player and at one time belonged to three Bridge Clubs.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence E. Phelps, her mother, Estella Caldwell Phelps, her brother, Clarence E. Phelps, Jr., her sisters, Victoria “Vicky” Phelps Taylor, Laura Phelps Trahan and Ruth Phelps Porter. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Zachary Clouser.

She is survived by her sons, Ernest Frederick Clouser and Judge Joel C. Clouser, Sr. (Gloria) and a host grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a wake service on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 6:30pm to 7:45pm in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. The viewing will be on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 9am to 9:30am, rosary from 9:30am to 10:00am and 10:00am to 11am viewing with the funeral mass at 11am at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church 3006 Rosedale @ Ennis. Houston, Tx 77004. The burial will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens. Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
