John H. Caines, age 87, of Belfry, Kentucky, formerly of Chattaroy, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at his home following a lingering illness.

Born January 7, 1930 in South Williamson, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Walter Homer "Bill" and Caroline Nelson Caines of South Williamson, Kentucky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Booth Caines, a son, John Michael Caines, a sister, Norma "Snookie" Caines Maynard, and a nephew, George David Maynard.

John was a 1950 graduate of Belfry High School and a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from service, he completed a business program at the Mayo Vocational School. He was a businessman for many years and co-owner of the former C&M Market. After leaving the market business, he sold cars for Hatfield-McCoy Ford. The last 40 years of his life he devoted to his father-in-law's business, JD Westcotts, where he served as secretary/treasurer after his wife's passing in 2001.

John was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Williamson, WV.

Survivors include his niece, Jenny and her husband Randall Stanley of Belfry, Kentucky, his extended family, Patty Phillips, Aubrey Booth, Suzy Phillips, and Jenny Moore, his dedictated caregiver, Emma Pecco - who went above and beyond, which allowed John to spend his last years at home, Ruby Hubbard who took care of John's house and assisted in his care, a caregiver, Denise Alley, a beloved church family, and a host of friends.

The Caines family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Bluegrass Care Navigators for all their help and care for the past several months.
