Survived by his wife, Connie (Boozel) Fortney; children, Angela Miner; and Melissa Freeberg, and husband, Todd; stepchildren, Rob Ritter; Suzanne Ritter and husband, Crist Stimley; and Mary Lee Rieffannacht and husband, Nelson; 6 grandchildren, Emily Orndorf, Erica Snyder, William Miner, Paige Whitsel, Katie Freeberg, and Gregory Freeberg; 4 step grandchildren, Cody Ritter, Elaine Ritter, Nelson Rieffannacht and Danielle Aumiller; and 14 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a wife, Patty (Beaver); son, William Fortney; step granddaughter, Sara Rieffannacht; brother Martin Pecht; brother-in-law, Walter Chilcote; and step daughter-in-law, Darla Ritter. Richard retired from Overhead Door. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking hunting trips with his many hunting buddies. Richard was an avid trap shooter and enjoyed shooting matches at the Alexandria Sportsman's Club. He liked to attend auctions and flea markets, camping and traveling north to Benezette to see the elk with his wife.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, a 7 p.m. at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glenn Rd, Lewistown, 17044 Pastor Connie Maclay officiant.
