Remmel (Lt. Col., USMC) and Sunshine lived happily in several spots across the United States while he completed a long and successful military career. Following his Marine Corps retirement, they settled in Falls Church, Virginia.
While he pursued a second career with Metropolitan Life, she enjoyed antiquing, needlepoint, and bridge as she continued to make wonderful friends. Always the life of the party, she loved people, and they loved her back. She often expressed that love by generously sharing her collection of hand-crafted angels, copper artifacts, and other gifts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, James VerPlanck. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, many cousins, and Remmel's loving and extended family.
For many years Sunshine faithfully collected and recycled aluminum cans and gave all profits to the Goodwin House Employees Fund. To honor her memory, please send memorial contributions to GHBC Employees Gift Fund, attention: Jamie Blake, 3440 S. Jefferson Street, Falls Church, VA 22041.
