Mary Lee Johnson, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Guest Home Estates III in Chanute, KS.
Johnson was born Sept. 29, 1917 to Frank Lee Breyfogle and Mary Lizzie (Smith) Chastain-Breyfogle.
She graduated from Chanute High School and received a Bachelor of Music degree from Baker University. She was a member of the Lambda Chapter of Delta Delta Delta National Sorority (which was founded in 1895 by her aunt, Grace (Breyfogle) Jones).
She was a retired school teacher, and she was an accomplished violinist.
She was active in Chanute Area Retired School Personnel Association, Professional Honorary Society for Women Educators, and Delta Kappa Gama Society Internationl.
She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Chanute.
She married Wallace Johnson on June 24, 1964. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1972.
Survivors include 11 nieces and nephews; 21 grand nieces and nephews; and many great-grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven half-brothers and half-sisters, Lewis Breyfogle, Beecher Breyfogle, Homer Leon Chastain, Mary Leona (Chastain) Butell, Nellie Mildred (Chastain) Johnson, Henry Neal Chastain, and Edward Melvin "Buck" Chastain.
Burial will be Oct. 28, 2006 in Elmwood Cemetery in Chanute, Kansas.
