Virginia Grant Virginia Lee Eichorn Grant, of Hixson, passed away peacefully at her home on Good Friday, April 14, 2006. She was in her 93rd year. Mrs. Grant was a direct descendent of the William Bean family, the first settlers in Tennessee, as well as the Poe family, who owned the first courthouse in Hamilton County. She graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mrs. Grant was a retired teacher from Hixson Elementary, where she taught for 19 years. She was a longtime member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayden P. Grant; her parents, Allie Belle Poe and George A. Eichorn; her brothers, Guy, Vaughn and George Jr. Eichorn; and daughter-in-law, Susan Beavers Grant. Survivors include her three children, Martha Virginia Grant-Scott, of Fayetteville, Ark., William Hayden Grant Sr., of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Susan Belle Grant, of Hixson; four grandchildren, Susan Elizabeth Grant Williams, of Canton, Ga., Rebecca Lee Grant, of Stone Mountain, Grant Michael Scott, of Lincoln, Ark., and William Hayden Grant Jr., of Lilburn, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Lee Williams and Kathryn Morgan Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens at the chapel of Devotion Mausoleum with the Rev. Everett Gossett and the Rev. Hugh B. Jones Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Donations can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
