Mrs. Jones was born in Johnston County, N.C., on Sept. 25, 1917, the daughter of the late Young Wright Strickland and Ettie Adams Strickland.
Mrs. Jones was a graduate of the Johnson County Schools, had retired from Smithfield Packing Company and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield, Va., a member of the Smithfield Women's Club and the Smithfield Republican Women's Club.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Robie Strickland; her second husband, Maurice W. Jones; and four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Lyndia Strickland Heward and husband, John, of Reno, Nev., and Sharon Strickland Horton and husband, Ron, of Salisbury, N.C.; four grandchildren, Damon Trim, Gregory Jones, Adam Horton and Roni Jean Horton; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at St. Lukes Memorial Park, Smithfield, Va., by the Rev. Will Montogomery, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield Va.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Upward Basketball and Cheerleading Program, First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton Street, Salisbury, NC 28144 or Assistance League of Reno-Sparks, P. O. Box 7376, Reno, Nevada 89510.
