Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at Winscott Road Funeral Home. Visitation: 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday. Burial: New Hope Cemetery, 782 New Hope Road, Parker County.
Elvira was born Elvira Love Smith in Weatherford on Aug. 9, 1928. She was the middle child of nine children born to William Ezra "Pete" Smith and Eva Josephine Plummer Smith. Her first marriage was to Norman Wayne Thornburg, and her second to Barney Lynn Lee. After Barney's premature death in 1970, she remained a widow for the next 46 years. To know Elvira was to love her. She was and remained a rock for so many during her long life, and will be greatly missed by one and all.
Elvira was known by many names during her lifetime. To some she was simply "Elvira", to some she was "Aunt Bag", and to others she was "Nanny". She meant so much to so many. May God bless and take care of Elvira.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Norman Wayne Thornburg and Barney Lynn Lee; daughters, Diane Colvin and Darlene Frazier; brothers, Wayford, R.E. and Willie Smith; sisters, Fanny Lou Crisp, Margaret Moss and Helen Hunnicutt.
Survivors: Son, Richard Lynn Thornburg and wife, Judy; son, Norman Wayne Thornburg Jr. and wife, Janet; sisters, Jackie Scarbrough and Kathleen Pope; many nieces and nephews; and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
