Floyd Allen Bailey, 80, of Farragut, Tennessee, formerly of Carbondale, Illinois; Kansas City, Kansas; Fairbanks, Alaska; and Mansfield, Ohio, died on Friday, July 21, 2017.

Floyd was born in Ferndale, Michigan, on September 20, 1936, the eldest son of the late Donald Burdette Bailey and Minnie Wilt Bailey. He was raised in Michigan, where he married his high school sweetheart, Sally Bixby Smith, in February 1956. They were blessed with four children.

A graduate of Troy High School, Floyd attended Hillsdale College for two years where he played varsity football. He graduated from Michigan State University where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Floyd worked as a telecommunications manager/engineer with several telephone companies. Following his second retirement, Floyd worked as a Red Cross swimming instructor and as a substitute school teacher in southern Illinois and later in the greater Knoxville area.

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia and son-in-law, Leland A. Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Sally of Knoxville; four children, Floyd, Jr., Sally Jo, James D. and Carrie; seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Richard; sister, Pamela, of Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyd was a wonderful husband and father, with a passion for football and a deep love for his wife of 61 years and his family. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan whatever their interests. Floyd a member of the Farragut Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Along with his wife, Floyd served three missions for his church.

A Celebration of Floyd's life will be held at the Farragut Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 11837 Grigsby Chapel Road, Knoxville, on Friday, July 28, at 3:30p.m., with Bishop Sexton officiating. Inurnment will be in the Bailey family plot, Frontier Cemetery, Frontier, Michigan, at a later date.
