Mary Evelyn Cheney, 84, passed away Thursday July 20, 2017. Funeral 10 a.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land. Mary was born April 18, 1933 in Van, Texas, and her family move to San Perlita, Texas where she graduated from High School in 1950. She attended college at UT Pan American College, Edinburg, Texas and obtained her Dental Hygiene degree. She practiced dental hygiene for many years before retiring. Mary married the love of her life Jack Cheney on Dec. 31, 1950, and they lived in Raymondville for several years before Jack entered the military service and served for years as an Artillery Officer. She and family moved many times during his military career and were fortunate to live with him in Europe for eighteen months. Mary and Jack enjoyed a wonderful 66 year marriage and they had five beautiful children. She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, and grandmother and had deep love for family. She never met a stranger she didn't like and to know Mary was to love her. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and spirit and worked constantly to further His Kingdom. She taught Sunday School on every post Jack served on, and was active in the prison ministry here in Ft. Worth. Mary also loved gardening and was an avid doll collector. She will be missed by all. Mary is survived by her husband, Jack; sons, Steve, Bruce, Mike, and wife Marechris, Jeff and wife Cindy; daughter, Marilyn; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
