William James Gilmore Sr. was born February 9, 1924 in Logansport, Indiana to Conant and Lena Gilmore. He was the second of 4 sons. He also had a sister, Georgia York. His childhood was spent in Canada and Oklahoma.

He married Ruby Alice Willis June 21, 1942 and they had 3 children, William Gilmore Jr, Susan Jarvis and Linda Lane.

He served his country in the Navy, Army and National Guard. He was stationed in Japan with the occupation forces for 21 months.

He was discharged from the military in 1952 whereupon he entered college at John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He received his degree and then worked for the university until 1966. While in Arkansas he preached in many country churches in the surrounding community, pastoring Calvary Baptist church during the 60's.

Bill and Ruby then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1966 where he worked for Tulsa University until he retired.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years in 2015 .

Services will be Monday, July 24 at 10:00 am at Bellevue Baptist church, 1040 N Yale with internment at Woodland Memorial Park, Sand Springs, Oklahoma
