Mary Alice Hawley Arnold Wayland passed away Saturday evening July 22 at her home, with family by her side.

Mary Alice was born September 1, 1921 in Danville, Illinois to Dennis and Mabel Brown Hawley. She attended Elmwood and Cannon schools and graduated from Danville High School.

She married Jack R Arnold. He preceded her in death in 1954. She then married William E. Wayland, Jr. He preceded her in death in January, 2016.

Mary Alice is survived by her loving children, Susan (Steve) Kelly, Nancy (Mike) Link, Suzanne (Nick) Arnett, Cheryl (Forest) Risch, Joan Gillett, Debi (Chris) Hosch, and William (Mara) Wayland, III. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren, Michael Link, Tom Link, Doug Link, Diann Smith, John Arnett, Mark Arnett, Daniel Risch, David Risch, Josh Risch, Doug Gillett, Patrick Gillett, Andy Hosch, Steve Hosch, Marshall Wayland, Drew Wayland and their families, 34 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Alice was a devoted mother and grandmother never missing a birthday. She prided herself on knowing each ones birth date year, day and month and kept meticulous records in her famous birthday book. She and Bill loved to travel especially to grandchildrens events. They rarely missed a Danville HS game. She served on the Vermilion county airport authority and was the executive director of the Danville Board of Elections. She was a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter HX.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four grandchildren, Lori and Jennifer Kelly and David and Julie Link; two brothers; three sisters and a sister-in-law.
