Charlsie Corene Cox, of Nauvoo, entered into rest Saturday at Hendrix Health Care in Double Springs.

Corene was a dedicated, retired Navy wife. She was married to Donald Fondren for 35 years. Her husband served both in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam war. She later married Edward Cox and resided with him until her illness. Although she was raised in the Methodist faith, she attended the Baptist Church and was a member of Southwide Baptist Church for 10 years. During her years, she served in the nursery as a Sunday School teacher. She was a certified nursing assistant and spent 19 years in the field. Corene was very active in activities that promoted emotional health at her job and received an award for employee of the year. She was lovingly known as “CoCo” because her initials were CCC.

Corene was the mother of 7 children.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 9-10 am at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will be at 10 am. Burial will follow in Ashridge Methodist Church Cemetery in the Ashridge Community.

Corene is survived by her husband, Edward Cox; sons, John Fondren and his wife Teresa, and Gary Fondren; daughters, Vickey Baccus, Linda Ebert and her husband Bradley, and Patricia Rabil and her husband Robert; sister, Dottie Sherrill; grandchildren: Bobby; Traci, Justin, Melissa, Shawnta, Nicholas, Olivia, George, Grace, Cody, Brianna, Kerry-Katlin, and Duncan; and great grandchildren: Aileah, Sierra, Eliana and Conner.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Donald Fondren; son, Ricky Baccus; daughter, Debra Martin; parents, Levi and Dora Baccus; brothers, Veto and Odell Baccus; and sister, Mary Letson.
