Jennie was the daughter of Nels and Johanna “Hannah” Anderson, who married circa 1876. The family immigrated to the U.S. circa 1888. Four of their seven children were born in Sweden, the other three in Illinois—Amanda (1877 – 1965), Carl (18 Jun 1879 – 15 Aug 1957), Nettie (10 May 1883 – 7 May 1937), Jennie (6 May 1887 – 26 Nov 1959), (son) Emile N. (Sep 1889 – 1960), Martin (Mar 1893), and an unidentified child who was born and died before 1900.

I found the family on the 1900 Census, living in Chebanse, Iroquois Co. , Illinois. Nels Anderson, aged 47, was farming for a living. Hannah, aged 46, reported that she had had seven children, but that only six of them had survived to that census. There with their parents were Carl, aged 20, Nettie, aged 17, Jennie, aged 12, Emile, aged 10, and Martin, aged 7. Eldest daughter Amanda had married William Burrill on 10 May 1895 in Iroquois Co., Illinois.

By the 1910 Census, the family had relocated and was living in Union Township, Marshall Co., Indiana. Nels Anderson, aged 56, was working a new farm. Hannah, aged 55, again reported that she had six living children. Only three children were still living at home with their parents—Jennie, aged 23, Emile, aged 20, and Martin, aged 18.

Two years after that census, Jennie married Ernest Poore on 6 Apr 1912. Ernest was the son of Daniel Poor and Rozilla May Elmendorf. (From: The Weekly Republican, Plymouth, IN – Thu 11 Apr 1912 pg. 4) “Poore-Anderson. On last Saturday afternoon at 4:30 occurred the marriage of Jennie Anderson of Rutland and Ernest Poore of Plymouth. The ceremony was performed at the M.E. parsonage by Rev. W.A. Smith. The groom is the son of Daniel Poore residing west of town and is engaged at the Novelty Works. Both are highly respected young people and they have the good wishes of their many friends. They will soon be at home to their friends in Plymouth.”

On his 5 Jun 1917 WWI registration, Ernest, aged 28, reported that he was living at 808 Plum St. in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana, and working for the Edgerton Manufacturing Co., known locally as the Basket Factory. The company made wooden shipping containers for fruits and vegetables. Wife Jennie was noted as his nearest relative. He was described as tall, of medium build, with dark blue eyes and dark brown hair.

The 1920 Census placed the couple at their Plum St. address in Plymouth. Ernest, aged 29, was noted as a laborer in a factory. Jennie, aged 32, was keeping house. Living with the couple was Jennie’s widowed mother Johanna Anderson, aged 65. Jennie’s father Nels Anderson had died a year earlier.

They were still living on Plum St. in Plymouth when the 1930 Census was taken. Jennie, aged 42, was keeping house. Three years after that census, Jennie lost her mother Johanna Anderson on 1 Apr 1933.

They were still at their home on Plum St. when the 1940 Census came around. Ernest Poore, aged 50, was noted as a machinist. Jennie, aged 52, was keeping house.

On his 27 Apr 1942 WWII registration, Ernest Poore, aged 52, was working for the Clizbe Manufacturing Co. and living in Plymouth at the same Plum St. home. Wife Jennie was noted as that person who would always know his address. He measured in at 5’ 9” tall, and weighed in at 185 lbs. His eyes and hair were both noted as gray.

Ernest and Jennie shared forty seven years together before death parted them, claiming Jennie on 26 Nov 1959, aged 72. Ernest lived another eight years without his helpmate and companion, passing into the light on 20 Jan 1967, aged 77.
