The funeral of Joseph C. Marsh, who died Friday, took place yesterday from his late residence, two miles north of Sedalia, to the city cemetery.
The deceased was carried to the grave by six veterans of the Mexican war: Judge H.C. Levens, Wm. Sperry, Wm. Jackson, Dudley R. Allen, Dr. Everett White and Col. Thos. P. Hoy. There were to be 8 people, but Col. L. W. Whipple was unavoidably absent and Mr. J. B. Hodges had gone to Boonville.
Mr. Marsh was 63 years years of age, and during the war of which he was a veteran, he was a private in Company C., Third Regiment, United States infantry. - Sedalia Weekly Bazoo - Tuesday, April 5, 1887 pg.8

Joseph C. Marsh
Post -office, Sedalia. Was born in Vermillion County, Ill., June 13, 1823. His father was a native of South Carolina and served in the war of 1812, and was for a long time Justice of the Peace. His mother's maiden name was Catharine Starr. Her father's name was John.
May 3, 1846, Joseph C. Marsh married Miss Catharine Sherer, daughter of John Sherer, a carpenter of Illinois. The following children were born: Cynthia A., Rebecca J., John W., Esau, Mary E., Emma R., Jesse C., James B., and Ida G.
