John William Sikes was born April 5, 1863 in Mississippi, possibly Tishomingo County. Family have been unable to determine who his parents were. It is said he and his brother Alonzo “Lon” were orphaned as very young children, brought to Polk County, AR and raised by foster parents, Mr. & Mrs. Sam Garner. The 1900 US Census is the earliest record found on John, it shows he married Eliza Ellison in 1881 at Polk County, AR. Their children were:
