Hayes (age 17, born Dec. 1882 in Tennessee) living in Carter County, Tennessee with father George, George's wife Margaret and brother John and probably step-siblings Dora E., Ethel M., Robert M. and Lolie A. William Hayes married Bessie Long on Sept. 4, 1909 in Hendricks County, Indiana. The marriage certificate shows his parents as George and Isabel (Mullis) Hayes and his birth on Sept. 25, 1884 in North Carolina. The 1910 Census shows Willie J. Hayes (age 27, born in North Carolina) living in Union Township, Hendricks County, Indiana with wife Bessie (age 20) and father George and sister Sonia Hayes.

William Hays, a respected citizen, died Sunday at his home near Tilden, of tuberculosis, aged 31. He is survived by Mrs. Hays who is a daughter of Thomas Long and by a son. The funeral was Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Aubrey Moore with interment at Lizton.
