He was born on January 27, 1833 in Granville, New York to Parry G. Hammond (his father) and Mary Ann (his mother). From 1850-1860 he was living in Caldwell, Warren, New York. In June 1869 he married Hetabella "Hattie" Belle Mills. In 1870, he was a boarder with Hattie's family, the Mills Family, in Chester, Warren, New York, USA. Phebe Bibby could be the adopted child of him and Hattie.

In about 1871, his and Hattie's son, Joseph Hammond was born. In 1875, his and Hattie's son, Clarence Hammond, was born. In 1880, his and Hattie's daughter, Mary E. Hammond was born.

In 1880, he was living in Glens Falls, Warren, New York, USA. He was a carpenter, with Dora Mills staying in household. He died on December 14, 1886 in Cummington, Massachusetts, USA with Cyrus W. Packard (Dora's husband) serving as an informant for his birth, death, and other information.

He died at age 53, 10 months, 17 days, married, died of "consumption" and was a farmer; he was born in Granville, NY, with his parents being Perry G. Hammond (born in Caldwell, NY), and Mary Ann Hammond (born in Granville, NY); he lived his last days in Cummington and died on Dec. 14, 1886 [1]
