Charles T. "Chuck" Alderman, 70, 21 days from 71, of Ottawa, died on Monday morning, July 17, 2017 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Mueller Funeral Home and Crematory in Ottawa, with Rev. Patrick Lohse, Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded immediately following, conducted by the American Legion Post 33 Veteran's Group Honor Guard. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on a later date. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, on Saturday.

Chuck was born on August 7, 1946 in Streator, to Charles N. and Mary "Phyllis" (Gingher) Alderman. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War. Chuck worked as a pipefitter and was a member of the Local 81 and then a member of the Local 597.

He was an avid writer, and authored a variety of books, including; Red Sky in the Morning Sailor Take Warning, Red Sky at Night Sailor's Delight, Ronnie, and Full Circle. Chuck was also a gun collector and loved to shoot. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by 2 children, Leah (Matthew) Thompson, of Morris, and Charles "Chas" Alderman, Jr., of Morris, 3 grandchildren, Mason, Jaxson, and Arya Thompson, and 5 siblings, Sallie (Bob) Maag, of Tehachapi, CA, David (Chris) Alderman, of Ottawa, Edward Alderman, of Ottawa, Nancy (David) Lund, of Ramona, CA, and Mark (Nikki Stevens) Alderman, of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Charles, in infancy. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for his grandchildren's education.
