Mr. Perry attended Campbell College, where he met the love of his life, Vertie Mitchell, to whom he was married for 66 years. He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Agriculture Education. He was employed with the U. S. Department of Agriculture Farmer’s Home Administration. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Perry was an active member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield for nearly 60 years. He was an avid gardener and loved hunting and playing golf.
The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 PM. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in First Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. Burial will be private.
Surviving are his wife, Vertie Mitchell Perry; son William H. “Bill” Perry, III of Raleigh; daughters Nell Bovender (Tim) of Rutherfordton, Denise Kopple (Mark) of Louisburg, Sandy Baker (Billy) of Smithfield, Margie Crumley (Rick) of Wilson’s Mills; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Handbell Choir at First Baptist Church, 202 S. Fourth St., Smithfield, NC 27577.
