James was a veteran of the Army during World War II. He attended Penn State University where he married his wife Marilyn, earned his Master's Degree, and played football. Then he began coaching and teaching history at Wilson Area High School, where he later served as athletic director and long-time principal. James was foremost a family man, supporting them all with love and any needed handyman projects. Time was also made to play golf and be an avid Penn State fan.
Survivors: daughter, Sharon and husband Russell Miles of SC; son, Jim and wife Janet of Easton, son, Barry of Nevada; two grandchildren, Michael and Brooke; three step- grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Addis, Lewis Matthews, and Faye Harvey.
