Rev. A. A. Howe had charge of the funeral services and Miss Jean Nott and H. J. Behmer sang appropriate music. Pall bearers were Fred Haye, J. A. Sweeney, Adolph Ewoldt, Wm. Peters, Henry Puhrmann and V. N. Rausch. Interment was in Waterman cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the service:
Lewis Severeide was born in Norway July 7, 1872, and passed from this life shortly after midnight on Thursday March 9, 1939, at the age of 60 years, 8 months and 2 days.
When he was but three years old his parents came to America and made their first home at Story City, Iowa. "Lew" came to O'Brien county when he was 14 and worked on farms near Sutherland. He has made this county his home for the past 53 years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Boyles of Sutherland at Primghar, Iowa. Three boys were born to this union, the eldest dying in infancy. Those surviving their father's death are Dr. Albert L. Severeide of Portland, Ore., and Earl Severeide of Sioux City. Six brothers also survive him. They are "Rass" of New London, Minn., Ed of Des Moines, Charles of Oshkosh, Wis., Oscar and Chris of Boone, Iowa, and Henry of San Antonio, Tex. One sister preceded him in death.
Mrs. Severiede passed away in 1904.
"Lew" was the grandfather of four grandchildren.
