North Ogden - Our dad, Ray William Garrard, died on January 9, 2016 at the age of 87, of causes incident to age. He was born to Stella Rowberry and Samuel Elisha Garrard, on January 28th, 1928, their 11th child. Dad served an LDS mission to the "Great Lakes Mission" in 1949 - 51. It was while on this mission that he first met a wonderful girl named Marva Dene Parker, who was also serving in the Great Lakes Mission. Later, after both Ray and Marva returned from serving honorable missions, they met again. Soon they became reacquainted and decided that they wanted to be together forever. Ray and Marva were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 8, 1953. Our angel mother passed away in November of 2002. Dad has missed her every day she has been gone, as we all have, and felt a huge hole in his life. We know that there has been a great reunion of our mom and dad and that many family members welcomed dad back home. Surviving are 5 daughters, Teresa (Robert K) Nielsen, Shauna (Scott S) Simpson, De Ann (David E) Wall, Le Ann (Pete M) Carreola, and Michelle (Jay W) Secrist, twenty seven grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren, many dear Nieces and Nephews, who loved him greatly. Two grandchildren preceded dad and mom in death. Dad was glad to have the companionship of a good friend, Marion McFarland, for several years after mom passed.

Dad had a great love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a Seminary teacher by profession, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a Physical Facilities Specialist, which gave him the opportunity to build furniture for and repair seminary buildings throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, which he loved doing. Dad always had a calling of great responsibility in the Church, throughout his life and felt those responsibilities deeply. It seemed mom and dad couldn't go anywhere even as they traveled abroad that they would meet one of dad's former students, friends, or co-workers who would stop to share a great memory of their friendship. Dad has been blessed by the love of many good friends throughout his life and loved them in return. Special thanks to those at Brookdale Assisted Living Center, CNS Hospice, and Pine View Skilled Nursing Facility, who took such good care of dad.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by his friends at Myers Ogden Mortuary, where a viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on the 14th prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the North Ogden 9th Ward Relief Society Room, 205 East Elberta Drive preceding the Funeral Services at 11 a.m. with former Bishop Frank Swan conducting the services. Interment will be at the North Ogden Cemetery.
