Evelyn Joyce Young
June 17, 1932 ~ July 13, 2017

Evelyn Joyce Buckminster Young, 85, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2017, in Vernal, Utah.

She was born June 17, 1932, in Lahoma, Oklahoma, to Norval and Alice (Finkenbinder) Buckminster.

Evelyn was the 4th of 8 children and was fondly known to most people in Oklahoma as "Tubby".

She grew up on the family farm that was homesteaded during the Oklahoma land rush of 1889 by Norval's father, Ernest Buckminster. Growing up on a large farm meant that Evelyn and her four sisters worked as hard as the boys. Evelyn had many colorful stories that she often shared about growing up in Oklahoma.

Evelyn met LeRoy Mathew Young at a church dance during the time LeRoy was stationed at Vance Air Force Base. While looking over the dance floor, Evelyn commented to her sister, Novella, that before the night was over, she'd be dance with that boy (LeRoy). For Evelyn, it was love at first sight. She had gone to the dance with another, but ended up leaving with LeRoy.

Evelyn and LeRoy were married in Enid, Oklahoma, on January 31, 1953. Their marriage was later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple in the spring of 1985.

LeRoy and Evelyn were blessed with two children, Zoe (Dr. Ace Madsen), and Dr. Burk Young (Teera).

Throughout her life, Evelyn had a colorful personality. She loved her Oklahoma "Sooners", Jiff peanut butter, perms, cuss words, Estee Lauder perfume, jewelry, and sunbathing.

She loved being the center of attention. She loved her brothers and sisters. She also loved her husband and missed living without him for the last seventeen years.

Evelyn was survived by her children Zoe (Ace) Madsen and Burk (Teera)Young; her brothers, Clifford (Jeannie) Buckminster and Charles (Nancy) Buckminster; her sisters, Alice Ruth (Ron) Dierkson and Norvella Nelson; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, LeRoy M. Young; her parents,; her sisters, Virginia Hill and Dorothy Went; and her baby brother, John.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Blackburn and Sons Vernal Mortuary.
