Dr. Teddy Charles 'Ted' Scott, M.D. passed from this life on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, after a long illness. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and recently, great-grandfather. Ted was born on January 22, 1947 in Slaton, Texas. He was raised in Post, Texas where he graduated from high school. He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry in 1969 from Texas Technological College. From 1969 to 1973 he attended the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. While in medical school, Ted earned clerkships in Pulmonary Medicine and OB/GYN at Parkland Memorial Hospital. He performed his internship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas in Internal Medicine from 1973-1974. After returning to Lubbock, he began a very successful General Practice from 1974-1979. During this time he treated thousands of patients, delivered hundreds of babies and touched countless lives. In 1979, Dr. Scott went back to school to become a general surgeon. He performed his residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center from 1979 -1984 and earned the post of Chief Resident at Lubbock General Hospital from January 1983 until January 1984. He then joined the Medical Arts Clinic in Lubbock where he practiced until 1996. Afterwards, he joined the Covenant Medical Group where he practiced until 2001. In 2001 Ted decided to return to private practice, which he continued until 2003. Ted and his wife, Denise, then moved to Branson, Missouri to pursue an opportunity at Skagg's Memorial Hospital. After a couple of years, they missed their family and Texas so they moved to El Campo, Texas where Dr. Scott began practicing at the El Campo Medical Clinic and the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. Ted married Denise, the love of his life, in May 1977. Together, they raised their four sons. They enjoyed travel, spending time at the lake, attending ballet and opera and time with family. Ted loved to sing and laugh, and he enjoyed flying, becoming an instrument-rated civilian pilot. Ted was also passionate about playing, practicing, watching, teaching and talking about golf. He was an accomplished player and helped many people learn and improve at the game. His signature line was, Get on your left! Ted was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and (sometimes heatedly) debating theological doctrine. At the time of his death, he was a member of Sugar Land Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Ted loved the Lord and was strong in his faith until his last day. He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley and his mother, Bettye, as well as his brother, Mike. He is survived by Denise, his loving wife of over 40 years. He is also survived by his four children, Teddy Charles Scott, Jr., and his wife Norah of Oak Park, Illinois, Douglas Moore Scott, and his wife Trinette of Cedar Park, Texas, Darrell Gibson Scott and his wife Lisa of Lubbock, Texas, and Jonathan Christian Scott and his wife Spirit of Sugar Land, Texas, as well as fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of extended family. A celebration of Ted's life will be held at the Sugar Land Baptist Church on July 17th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home in Stafford, Texas on July 16th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas on July 19 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift in Dr. Scott's name to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
