Longtime Eagle Creek resident, Alvin Birman, died at a Portland Hospital with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was 96.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 3 & 7:00pm at Powellhurst Baptist Church 3435 SE 112th in Portland. Private inurnment was at George Cemetery in Estacada.

Alvin Leonard Birman was born January 19, 1921 in Clarksville, Michigan to John and Esther (Hess) Birman. The family moved from Michigan in 1933 to the Roseburg area then to Shasta area where he graduated in 1939 from Butte Valley High School.

He worked for a few years before entering into the US Navy. After his honorable discharge, he attended Oregon State University. On May 12, 1946, Alvin married Avis “Teen” Cushman in Tenmile, Oregon. They made their home in Medford. He worked for Camp White in White City with the Veterans Administration as a recreationist for most of his working career. In 1977, he retired and they moved to Eagle Creek where he worked for Eagle Creek Grade School as a custodian. He also worked as a newspaper transporter for the Estacada News.

Alvin had a great love of being in the mountains surrounded by trees and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years Teen; daughter, Terry Evernden and her husband Jim; son, Stan Birman and his wife Patti all of Portland; sisters Kay Page, Barbara Birman; brother, Jim Birman; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
