James Fred Briggs, Jr.
June 23, 1944 - August 9, 2015

James Fred Briggs, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 9, 2015.

He was born June 23, 1944 in San Angelo, TX to James Fred and Mary Frances (Powell) Briggs. Jim was raised in a Christian home where they attended Harris Avenue Baptist Church every Sunday. His family always sat down to home cooked meals and enjoyed playing board games together with his mother.

He graduated from Lakeview High School where he discovered a love of music, first with the clarinet, and then the saxophone. He was in the marching band, concert band, and even a swing band. He excelled with the saxophone to the point that when he enlisted in the Navy, he was offered the chance to join the Navy Band. Instead, however, he chose to travel as a radioman on a Navy supply ship, visiting destinations primarily in the Far East including Japan and the Philippines. In 1966, he was honorably discharged and began attending Angelo State University.

While there, he again enjoyed playing in the band. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History in May, 1970.

After college Jim moved to Houston because he wanted to be near the water. There he worked in computer operations for several years and later on became a substitute teacher. It was in Houston where he met the love of his life, Arlene Krajcik. They were married on June 24, 1972.

Jim and Arlene loved to travel, including several cruises. In their 40 years of marriage, they made it to 48 of the 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico and islands in the Caribbean.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, as well as his niece, Christi (Briggs) Ayala. He is survived by his sister Jean (Briggs) Woods and husband Kenny (Loogootee, IN), brother Robert Briggs (San Angelo, TX), niece Keri Woods (Fort Walton Beach, FL), and 2 nephews Bobby Briggs and wife Carrie (Fort Worth, TX) and Brian Woods and wife Ginger (New Whiteland, IN). He also leaves seven great nieces and nephews, Kylie, Ashley, Blayne, Breanna, Samuel, Lizzy, and Bryson.

Visitation will be open to the public from 6-8pm on Thursday, August 13 with a memorial service at 10am on Friday. Both will be at the Grandview Funeral Home and Memorial Park; 8501 Spencer Hwy in Pasadena, TX.
