Wayne E. Harbaugh, 87, of Oneida Township, Huntingdon, where he has resided since 1982, went to be with The Lord at 10:58 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at his residence, following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 3, 1929, in Cass Township, Calvin, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Willis Eston Harbaugh and Flora Leona (Roland) Harbaugh. He is survived by his significant other of many years, Trudy I. Metz, of Huntingdon.

He is survived by two children, Gregory A. Harbaugh and his wife, Ruth, and Cheryl S. Heidel and her husband, Doug, all of Mill Creek. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Stephanie Allen, Shannon Harbaugh, Gregory Harbaugh Jr. and his wife, Sandy, Curtis Harbaugh and his wife, Dee, Travis Harbaugh, Shawn Harbaugh, Chandra Heidel and her husband, Brad, and Joshua Heidel and his wife, Kayla; six great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandson.

He was preceded in death by: a son, Stephen W. Harbaugh, on Nov. 20, 2009; a daughter-in-law, Bettina M. Harbaugh, on July 13, 2007; as well as, one sister and one brother, Mildred (Harbaugh) Endres and Ithel M. Harbaugh.

He attended the Cedar Crest Independent Baptist Church, Mt. Union.

Mr. Harbaugh was a life member of the Frank P. Hommon Post #24, American Legion, and Standing Stone Post #1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Huntingdon. He was also a member of The Forty and Eight and the Mill Creek Lions Club.

He attended Calvin public schools and Mt. Union High School. He completed his high school education while stationed in Bamberg, Germany during his U.S. Army military career.

Mr. Harbaugh retired as First Sergeant from the U.S. Army on July 31, 1971, after 23 years of service. He served a tour in Guam, two tours in Germany where he spent a total of eight years, two tours in Korea during the Korean War, and served one tour in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Following his military service, Mr. Harbaugh returned to Huntingdon where he worked at C.H. Miller Hardware, the former O.H.I. in Mt. Union, the former Martin H. Heine Petroleum, Huntingdon, and Cisney & O'Donnell, where he ended his working career.

In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed bowling and calling Bingo. He especially loved family get-togethers and visits, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017, and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the funeral home, with the Pastor James Barton officiating. Committal with full military honors accorded by the combined VFW/American Legion Color and Honor Guards will be in the Mooresville Cemetery, West Township, Petersburg.
