William Thomas "Tom" Stark, 70, who died 10 May 1978, operated a beer distributorship and a service station in Billings, before he moved to Red Lodge in 1971.

In 1937, He was selected with the second group of men named to the newly organized Montana Highway Patrol.

He was born in Spencer Brook, MN. When he was a child, his parents William and Jennie McKenzie Stark settled on a ranch near Carlyle MT. He married Kathryn Swanbro in 1937 in Boulder MT.

While in Billings, for 20 years he had operated the Tom Stark Distributing Co. After moving to Red Lodge, he owned the Beartooth Cabins for two years, then managed the Eagle Bar for four years. He was a member of the Elks and the Eagles lodges in Red Lodge, and the United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Hartung of Billings and Mrs. Sharon Marten of Columbus; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Russell of Portland Oregon, Mrs. Lydia Lund of Baker and Mrs. Janette Lund of Wibaux; and a brother, Edward M Stark of Billings; Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jetmore-Dahl Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings.
