Rosalie Robbins Sorensen was born December 10, 1925. She lived her life in faith and kindness, peacefully passing away on August 3, 2016. She was loved by all who knew her. Rosalie was a loving wife to John Sorensen for the past 69 years. She was the beloved mom to Mike (Judy) Sorensen, Jim (Mindy) Sorensen, and Robin (Jim) Hargesheimer. Rosalie was an adored Grandma to Kris, Keith, Callie, Ryan, Brett, Dane, & Kelsey, and the proud and caring great-grandmother of Kaarina, Henley, Willa, and baby boy to-be Hargesheimer.

Rosalie's family would like to invite friends and relatives to an open house Celebration of Life from 2-4pm on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Olson Funeral Home, 6471 N. Northwest Highway in Chicago. The reason the family chose the Columbus Day weekend is that for over 60 years, our favorite family vacations have been camping trips to Devils Lake, Wisconsin every Columbus Day weekend.
Rosalie Robbins was born and raised in Howards Ridge, Missouri. She will be buried alongside her parents in the small cemetery that adjoins the old family farm in Howards Ridge. Mom attended a one room school house but left the Ozark Mountains to come to the big city and attend business school. Her first job was working a dictaphone at America Fore Insurance in the Chicago Loop. The year was 1946 and it was at this company that Rosalie first met Dorothy Piurkowski, who was to become her lifelong friend. Dorothy had invited her neighbor John Sorensen to the company picnic where she introduced John to Rosalie. After that first meeting, John and Rosalie were wed one year later. In 1958 John and Rosalie moved from Chicago to the then open spaces of Des Plaines. John began working as a bus driver for United Motor Coach and Rosalie began working as a secretary at Central School in Des Plaines. In 1984 the parents, students, and teachers of Central School commemorated her 25th year of service by sending her and Dad on a first class vacation to Hawaii. Yes, that is how much our mom was loved.
