Richard Albert Sunder was born on March 4, 1945, in Freeport, MN, the son of Henry and Theresia (Wolbeck) Sunder. He grew up in Freeport where he graduated from Melrose High School in 1963. Following high school, Richard served in the United States Army during Vietnam.
On January 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Michels in South Dakota. They lived in Albany and Hawick before moving into Willmar four years ago. Richard worked for Jennie-O as a supervisor for 22 years before retiring in 1996. Richard was a member of American Legion Post #167 of Willmar.
He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith in Freeport and was a member of Church of St. Mary in Willmar.
Surviving are his wife, Mary of Willmar; children, Shelley (Ken) Nelson of Coon Rapids; Sharon (Bill) Tyson of Marshall; Shirley (Brian) Halgrimson of Fridley; Steve (Kari) Sunder of Willmar and Rick (Shawndra) Sunder of Willmar; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are his siblings, Hank (Rita) Sunder of St. Joseph; Frank (Heidi) Sunder of Sauk Centre; John Sunder of St. Cloud; Jerome (Joan) Sunder of Holdingford; Marie (Benny) Beilke of Sauk Centre; Rita (Art) Terwey of Melrose; Danny (Jean) Sunder of Albany and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother, Robert in infancy.
