Gordon Harvey Sr. was a lifetime race car driver at many tracks and was a former NASCAR driver. His only NASCAR Strictly Stock event in his career occurred at the Daytona Beach Road Course in 1951. His #46 Henry J. Kaiser-Frazier Stock Car would finish in 43rd place.

Gordon meet Vivian Beck in the very early 1940's and they later married. In 1945 their son Gordon Francis Harvey Jr. was born. Gordon Harvey Sr.'s wife Vivian was also a race car enthusiast and racer. Harvey and Vivian later separated and then divorced.

On May 28, 1973 they lost their only child Gordon Jr. He was killed when his dune buggy flipped over on a bog in the Georgia swamps. After Gordon Jr. funeral, Harvey Sr. and Vivian kept in contact afterwards. Both being remarried, they now had a friendly relationship.

According to his former wife Vivian McGraw said, she saw Harvey after his first and second heart surgeries. His present wife was convinced he had waited for Vivian to get there, because he died just under two hours after she left.

Gordon Harvey Sr. has been recognized by the Living Legends of Auto Racing in Daytona Beach, Florida. He also has been recognized with a brick on the "Walk of Fame" in Daytona Beach Shores.
