Monica Norman, age 84 of Barrett, formerly of Hoffman, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Monica was born, the eighth of thirteen children, to Nicholas and Ann (Pusl) Weiland on July 7, 1932, in Morris, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith and attended various country schools. Monica graduated from the Hoffman High School in 1951.

On March 1, 1954, Monica was united in marriage to Bill Norman at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake. After their marriage, they farmed in Land Township by Hoffman until 1989. In 2001, Bill and Monica moved into Hoffman and Bill passed away on December 2, 2003. Monica continued living in Hoffman until June of 2013, when she entered the Bethany Home in Alexandria. In June of 2015, Monica moved to the Rolling Hills Assisted Living in Barrett.

In her spare time Monica enjoyed ceramics, baking, cooking for her family, embroidery, traveling to Bullhead City for the winter months, and spending time at their lake cabin. Monica and Bill were blessed with many good years farming together. Her greatest enjoyment was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a proud "Grammy". Monica was a member of Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

She is survived by her children, Diann Giese of Barrett, Linda Bedard of Rochester and Scott Norman of Hoffman; seven grandchildren, Rachelle Giese, Ryan (Keri) Giese, Kaia and Grady, Rebekah (Jeff) Schaefer, Benton, Briggs, Beckett and Finnley, Jason (Melissa) Bedard, Jeremy (Brittany) Bedard and Ariana, Joshua (Cassie) Bedard, Laila and Richie, and Nathan Bedard; sister, Betty (Ken) Hedstrom of Hoffman and brothers, Robert (Carolyn) Weiland of Alexandria and Nick Weiland of Hoffman and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son-in-law, Ron Giese and brothers and sisters, Ronald, Jerome, Roy, Victor, Richard and Don Weiland, Eileen Anderson, Marge Jenson and Doris Jenson.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church in Kensington with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Clergy: Father Peter Kirchner and Father Andrew Marthaler
