James Patton Rowsey
1932 - 2007



James Patton Rowsey, 74, longtime Muskogee resident died Wednesday, January 31, 2007. He was born December 16, 1932 in Muskogee to Paul Edward and Valena George Rowsey. Jim attended Muskogee schools and then traveled to Minnesota where he attended Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minnesota. He enjoyed his time there and graduated as the captain of both the tennis and golf teams. Jim attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He graduated from OU with a degree in finance. Jim served in the United States Army as a finance officer.

On August 28, 1954 Jim was married to Janyne "Candy" Carnes. In 1956 Jim and Candy returned to Muskogee where they made their home. Jim joined his father and brother in business at City Chevrolet Company. He was active for many years in the dealership and sold his interest and retired in 1984. Jim was an active member of the community. Jim was affiliated with many clubs and organizations including Muskogee Rotary Club, Muskogee Round-up Club, National Automobile Dealers Association, Oklahoma Automobile Dealers Association, Muskogee Chamber of Commerce, and the Five Civilized Tribes Museum. Jim was a former director of First National Bank and was a longtime member of Muskogee Country Club and had served on their board of directors.

In his later years he assisted his friend, Glenn Smith, with Glenn's oil business. Jim's love for people and his passion for conversation kept him active. His sense of humor was one of his greatest attributes. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Muskogee Country Club. He was an avid golfer throughout his life.

Mr. Rowsey was preceded in death by: his wife, Candy Rowsey; son, James Patton Rowsey, Jr.; mother and father, Valena and Paul E. Rowsey; brother, Paul E. Rowsey, Jr. and sister, Martha Louise Rowsey Anthis.

Jim is survived by his son, David Reed Rowsey and his wife Nancy of Tulsa, and David's children Christopher Reed and Lauren Elizabeth. He is also survived by his daughter Ann, son-in-law, Wilson T White and their two children, Wilson Thomas and Amelia Ann of Tulsa and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00P.M. Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at St. Paul Methodist Church, with Rev. Kevin Tully officiating. Pallbearers will be Gene Wyrrick, Glenn Smith, Bob Kuykendall, Judge Mike Norman, Dr. Bartis Kent, and Joe Foster. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Friends may wish to remember Jim Rowsey by making contributions to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 West Broadway, Muskogee, OK 74401.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
