Z. Winifred Lauffer, 92, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Apollo, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Asbury Heights Personal Care Center, Mt. Lebanon. Born Oct. 29, 1912, in Apollo, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Martha P. Gumbert Lauffer. She lived in the Apollo area most of her life. Prior to retiring in 1977, she was employed by Forbes Lumber & Supply Co., Cheswick, for 30 years, and by Saul Lumber Co., Washington Township, as a secretary and accountant. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, and was a member of First United Church of Christ, in Apollo, where she was also the organist. She was a member of the Apollo Historical Society, Church Women United, AARP, Women's Club of Kiski Valley and was active in the Girl Scouts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and John Lauffer; and a sister, Mary Howell. She is survived by a sister, Martha Jane Brown and her husband, Martin, of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Donald K. Lauffer and his wife, Martha, of Indiana, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, where services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Himes officiating. Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
