Bill Allred was born to Alvin and Flo Allred July 17, 1943 at Batesville, AR, while his Dad was serving in the Philippines during World War II. He was raised on the Gayler Creek farm as the only child of his loving parents.

Bill graduated from Mountain View High School in 1961 and married his high school sweetheart Betty Lawrence in December 1962. Their son, John David Allred, was born in 1966.

Bill attended barber school and worked as a barber for a short while before beginning his 30-year career with the Arkansas Highway Department. He was a lifelong Democrat. He served seven years as a board member of the Mountain View School. He was an avid basketball fan, rarely missing a game. He rooted for his beloved YellowJackets, traveling many miles, many years in their support with his good buddy Benny Decker.

When their son John David passed away in 1997 at the age of 30, Bill and Betty established the John Allred Memorial Scholarship Foundation to honor the memory of their only child. These past twenty years the scholarship has been bestowed upon a graduating Mountain View High School senior whose Christian lifestyle resembled that of John.

At heart Bill was a farmer. His farm was his therapy, especially after the loss of John. This farm brought him the Hill family, who lived at the edge of the hayfield on Gayler Creek. Mike and Jan Hill moved to their old farm house in 1970, later producing four children: John, Matt, Katie, and Jessie, who brought him and Betty great joy. The children became a major part of the Allred family, from tea parties to prayers, and remain so.

Bill was diagnosed with Acute Myleogenous Leukemia on June 19. He passed Thursday June 29, 2017, at Baxter Regional Hospital in Mountain Home, AR.

Bill is survived by Betty, his wife of 55 years. He also leaves behind his Uncle Marvin Richardson and first cousin Inez Johnson of Mountain View AR, many cousins, and many, many friends.

A visitation will be Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 1:00-2:00PM at Flatwoods Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. The funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00PM with Brother Joel Breeding officiating. Interment will be at Fifty Six Cemetery in Fifty Six, Arkansas following the service.

Pallbearers are Eric Curl, Fred Ward, Kenneth Sutton, Matt Hill, Mike Sisk, J.K. Williams, Larry Hull, and Bob Sisk. Honorary pallbearers include Steve Mitchell, Norvell Love, Bill Zellers, Mark Branscum, Ron Sterling, Hershel Smith, and Mike Cartwright.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John Allred Memorial Scholarship Foundation, 401 Lancaster St., Mountain View, AR 72560
