Mary was born on July 30, 1929 in Princeton to John V. Jones and Mary Ellen Miller-Jones. Mary was the middle of three sisters - oldest Maudella Jones (husband Harry David Smith) and youngest Lucile Goldia Jones (husband Ernie Gourley). At age three, her mother passed away leaving them orphaned.
On Feb. 14, 1953, she married Max L. Pickering of Peru. He preceded her in death in 2008. Together they lovingly raised their two children, Stephen A. Grant, Greenbrior, Arkansas, and daughter Patsy Pickering Ruark, Peru. They lived their lives for Jesus Christ.
Mary was a very hard worker whether it be at a job or on her farm. Her employment included Miller's Merry Manor, Laid Laws, Murphy's, Kreski Dime Stores, and many more. Aside from working in and out of the home, she was very involved with her grandkids from the time they were born and was very involved in their upbringing. She continued this loving characteristic with her numerous grandchildren.
At age 70, Mary proudly acquired her GED. Mary was a woman of faith. Her present church was Walk By Faith in Roann, but she enjoyed many years teaching Sunday School class at Center Chapel Brethren Church where she was also a member.
Her hobbies and pleasures included fishing, reading, crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles, gardening and feeding her birds.
