"Tobias Quesinberry was the son of Thomas and Tobitha Cock Quesinberry, born and reared in Snake Creek. He married Nancy Bobbitt, daughter of Greenberry Bobbitt, and came to live at Mountain Plains near the home of his father-in-law. Tobias and Nancy had six children.

Tobias was in his 30's when the Civil War broke out, but he left the county with the militia in the spring of 1862 for a short tour of duty in Smyth County. He was taken into the Confederate Army a year later - mustering into Company I 45th, Virginia on Feb. 20, 1863 at Hillsville and was with the company until his capture at Piedmont on June 5, 1864. He was sent to a prison camp at Indianapolis, Indiana where he was one of the few to endure the prison life to see the end of the war. He was then released June 12, 1865 - one year and seven days after his capture. He returned home and lived to an old age."
