Lincoln T. "Link" "Lou" Lewallen, age 90 passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital on Monday. He was born in Robbins, TN on January 30, 1927. Lincoln graduated from Robbins High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly afterwards. He proudly served from 1946 until 1949. Semper Fi!
Lincoln worked for over a decade as the manager of an ice and coal plant in Albermarle, NC and then later in New Bern, NC. He left to become a Production Despatched/Controller and later Supervisor at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) at Cherry Point, NC, responsible for all the fuel accessories that required repair for approximately 200 jet engines per quarter, and for hundreds of individual fuel items coming from the Fleet Military. He retired from the government in 1987. In 1989, he became a certified locksmith. He used his locksmith skills primarily as a hobby and to help friends and family. However, Lincoln had a mischievous sense of humor and was known to enjoy pulling pranks on his friends by switching out their car ignitions and door locks. This, of course, was before the days of computer chip-enabled keys.
Lincoln liked to pay the harmonica, read mystery and detective novels, and work puzzles, especially cryptograms. He also loved to pursue thrift stores and garage sales. He was a gifted jack-of-all trades who could fix and repair just about anything. He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. He is a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Huntsville; member of the past master of St. John's Masonic Lodge, New Bern, NC.
Lincoln's first marriage to Amy Eloise Noe was on June 11, 1949 in Bath, NC. They were married for 50 years at the time of her passing, and had two children. His second marriage was to Shirley M. Lewallen in 2001 in Oneida, TN until her passing and then to Althea Lewallen in 2004 in Oneida, TN until her passing. He has four adult stepchildren with Althea.
Mr Lewallen was preceded in death by his parents; wives (Amy Noe Lewallen, Shirley McCoy Lewallen, Althea Hughett Lewallen; son Clark Edward Lewallen; grandson, Brian Douglas Hengel; brother, Loyd Lucas Lewallen; sister Lucille Phillips and stepson, Robert Hughett.
Survivors include his daughter, Wanda (Jack) Hengel of Huntsville, AL; grandson, John Hangel of Prattville, AL; granddaughter, Jennifer (Phillip) Hood, of Huntsville, AL; stepson, Kenny (Judy) Hughett of Ringold, GA; stepdaughter, Eileen (James) Kettering of Las Vagas, NV; stepdaughter, Sharon (Kirk) Shoopman of Oneida, TN. along with numerous nieces and nephews from NC and TN.
Visitation for Mr. Lewallen will be Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Valhalla. Funeral service will follow at 3:00pm at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Garden of Crosses.
