Mrs. Mary Pauline O'Briant Franks
Clarksdale, MS
Pauline was known as Nana by many people. In her early years she became a nurse. Her natural born talent of being a caregiver was her legacy that she either passed on or provided to all that knew her. Even at 95, she would reach out to people to see if they needed any help or if she could do something to make things better. She had a gift that came directly from God. It was to help others. In her professional career she excelled because she followed God's path that He chose for her. She was proud to be a nurse and was the president of the nursing board for years. She traveled all around in the state of MS and was invited to share her knowledge to many other states. She worked in the hospital for years and then was a private duty nurse. She finally retired and then the real work started.
She nursed her daughter who had been in a horrific accident and had two daughters to raise. She had taught us how important it was to be a family and how much we needed each other, no matter what. She had a pretty big family. She had three sisters and two brothers. One sister was a twin. She would tell stories of how her and her twin swapped places. Sometimes it would get them both in trouble. We very rarely saw her mad, but when she was, you had better pay attention, listen, and straighten up. My mom and I talked to her and each other every day.
There are so many good stories about her, but mom and I only want to share a few. When her great grandson Brooks was little Nana dressed up like the pink Power Ranger and would play. When both her great grandsons were babies, she would come over and if they were asleep she would bump the bed with her knee to wake them up. She would always act surprised that they "just woke up". She asked to go to Clarksdale Nursing Home about a year ago. She loved to visit all day and she would be so excited when she would win 50 cents at Bingo. She continued to make scarves and would always reach out to the other residents who felt bad. I will say that Nana smiled, closed her eyes and went to her Heavenly Father. Mom told her to find her granddaughter Candy and take care of her. Nana was loved by many. She will never be forgotten.
Survivors include her daughter Sue Jones (Bubba) Jones; Granddaughter Brenda (Greg) Bishop; Great-grandsons Johnathon Brooks O'Keefe Bishop, Joshua Wade Bishop; Brother Harold O'Briant; Sisters Annie Edwards Ivy, Loree Hollaman. She had many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Proceeded in death by Granddaughter Mary Candice Jones; Brother Wayne O'Briant; Sister-in-law Maxine O'Briant; Twin sister Alyne Lewis. She was very excited to see her again.
